A couple weeks ago at @subclub87 ending my set with the Melodies from Heaven edit, just a few hours after finishing it up. Hyped to hear everyone’s been feeling it since the release AND doubly hyped to have gotten to bring some soulful dnb to Sub Club. 2026 is looking bright (although a bit grey cloudy and rainy) for drum and bass here in Glasgow ✌🏿

This one takes me way back. Couldn’t go a Sunday without hearing this album in the car on the way to and from church. It got me thinking though, a lot of what has influenced me as a musician is my time spent in church, choirs, and more specifically gospel music. If you were anything like me, you got carted to church every Sunday morning. Around an hour and a half of service, and another hour of your Mom talking to everyone with a pulse before you could head back home...except there were always a few shopping stops before you made it back.

I sang in the kids’ choir and eventually played drums, basic stuff for a 10-year-old, along with the adult choir and looking back on it, it definitely played a part in my musical upbringing. I’m not religious, wasn’t then either although what kid really is, but I’ve always had an appreciation for the music side of church services. Most of undergrad music theory is studying hymns anyway. I don’t miss part-writing assignments.

There’s just something about the voice, especially a bunch of them, a choir perhaps, that when all aligned create this larger-than-life wall of sound. That combined with what you could (overly) simplify as jazz-related harmonies, branches of a similar tree, and you get something with a certain power and movement to it. A visceral feeling, almost like the way a big stack of subs can shake your insides...

All that aside, in true winslow edits fashion, here is my take at further re-contextualizing that early 90s car ride to church feeling into drum and bass. If you know the tune, there are some crazy key changes I left out, but I might make a more, how do I put it, “self-indulgent” arrangement of the edit with those sections in it later on. Who knows, maybe that’s what we need more of in this space. Big choirs and key changes all accompanied by some smooth rolling breaks.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the tune ✌🏿

Been mulling over the idea of bringing some physical bits back for a few upcoming projects. The classic “w” hats, shirts, and maybe a few other off the wall ideas we don’t see as much. Here’s one piece that I never brought out but was trying a few years back. What do you think? Anything you’d like to see?

Any designers want to collab on some things? Shoot me a message ✌🏿
