Fashionably late for a 2023 round up of my artistic practice, 2023 was the year I stopped posting on my IG feed, I’ve had a year of contemplation, reflection and learning.

During my art school journey I wanted to be a finished product. Being the first in my family to go to university I felt a pressure to be successful which meant I didn’t give myself the time to learn skills or develop whilst studying.

2023 has been the year of learning and developing. I’ve been teaching myself robotics and animatronics as well as learning about quantum physics.

I kicked off the year with a show at @chemist.gallery with @martinaoshea_ which was such an amazing opportunity. I combined my readings on physics and art with my love of Mel c! - coming to the conclusion that time is gay.

During this time me and @chanel.le curated an exhibition at @87__gallery in Hull with @bisforbecky featuring works by 6 working class creative database members from across the UK. This Inspired me to curate the show Gatherings later in the year at @setsetsetsetsetset in Woolwich showcasing the work of 28 working class creatives. We also curated our residency programme as SET woolwich and hosted residencies with Yorkshire sculpture park and Aspex Portsmouth. I participated in a Panel discussion at Lighthouse, Brighton, Featured in the Face magazine and received a sponsored membership to AWITA. Oh and Bella Ramsey bought my t shirt, thanks Bella! Beyond that I feel like I’ve reconnected with nature, friends, and the city.
Definitely my poorest year financially but my richest year for learning, making connections and laying some lovely foundations for 2024. Here’s to a year of earning a bit of cash, making more art and continuing to spread the message that art is for everyone, not just those who can afford it.
I’ve been very busy with WCCD so I’m trying to take a bit of time to focus on my own art practice. I’ve been looking over past works and thought I’d share a bit of ‘Fish Interlude’ which was shown as part of ‘Dream Weavers’ with @grove.london last year. 🐟

Fish interlude is a conversation between 3 fish; a conversation of rhythm, nature and bodies. An exploration of existence, time and Spotify algorithms.

I’m really interested in creating installations that feel like theatre; narrative based, immersive and bringing the audience on a journey of emotions.

I’d been teaching myself electronics to get these mouth and eyes moving for the show which didn’t exactly go to plan as all my motors blew out 🥹.

I haven’t managed to have much time in the studio but I’ve been working on building a talking fox sculpture. I’ve learned a bit more about electronics since then and will be sharing my progress throughout the next few weeks 🤞
Another excerpt from the documentation of ‘Hard Drives , Soft Walks’ a duo show with @martinaoshea_ at @chemist.gallery

Together we created a collaborative sound piece: two voices telling tales through radio static, located in an ever changing vista of London, Ireland and Yorkshire. Fields, birdsong hit against traffic jams and sirens, mummers and echos from tv sets counter to techno beats transformed into the bodhrans. City remains and construction materials, pop memorabilia and programmed lights are forming a ghostly, theatrical set of the ever in flux space between body place and time.
An excerpt from the documentation of ‘Hard Drives , Soft Walks’ a duo show with @martinaoshea_ at @chemist.gallery including pop star posters pulled from magazines and sandwiched between Perspex. I attached them to the scaffolding poles to reference street lamps/ construction inspired by walks through the city. Thinking about Memories being a mash up of what we visually experience in the present and the past imagery we keep in our minds; the faces of 00’s celebrities are embedded into the concrete of my commute.
