Will travel for pizza ✈️🗽🍕 If you need an excuse to book the nonstop @alaskaair flight from Seattle to New York, let it be this. Everyone we asked recommended @johnspizzerianyc for our first 🍕 pie in New York - and since it’s just steps from Times Square, it was an easy walk from where we’re staying at The New Yorker Hotel. Located inside a historic 1888 Gospel Tabernacle church, this spot has old-school New York energy and brought us right back to Italia 🇮🇹 (Also make sure to order their famous garlic rolls!!) …..and I’d do it again. ✈️ Because yes, they missed school. But they also learned how to navigate a new city, take the train from New York to New Jersey, explore Little Portugal, try new foods, hear different languages, and see the world beyond their daily routine. We flew in and out of Newark for our NYC girls’ trip, so instead of treating New Jersey like just the airport, we made it part of the adventure. From New York Penn Station, we took NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station - about 18 minutes and $6/person - then headed to Ironbound, Newark’s Little Portugal, just 10 minutes from EWR. Our mission: pastries at Pao Da Terra 🥮 🇵🇹 (hot tip from @thechrisgarces) And it ended up being the perfect side quest. Because one day they won’t remember the assignments they missed… They’ll remember the adventures we shared together and the experiences that made them feel part of a bigger world.
