Trigger warning ⚠️

Being open about this hasn’t been easy, but I’ve spent the past few months trying to understand my purpose and feel more compelled to speak about the poor mental health support system and its potential dangers. Without my community, the outcome would have been so different.

It’s easy to feel ashamed for struggling with poor mental health, but that shouldn’t be the case. For years, I’ve been embarrassed to talk about my suffering, but suffering in silence is truly the problem.

I usually keep things like this to myself, but the treatment I’ve received has been nothing short of a failure. A “qualified” mental health nurse even asked me if I’d “learnt” my lesson, as if struggling mentally should be met with punishment? These are the people entrusted to protect vulnerable people and rehabilitate them, yet I can’t see how the current system is sustainable or helpful. I’ve not even covered 5% of the poor treatment I received.

As someone who struggles to regulate my brain, I haven’t been easy on myself or put myself in the best position for a sustainable career. While being a content creator is great and truly rewarding, it’s hard to manage at times. Food will always be the focus, but in a world flooded with AI on social media, I think it’s important to do things on my own terms. I believe in creating content I enjoy, and the rest will follow.

This is the first time in 12 years I’ve taken time off work completely to just exist and be myself. It’s been healing, and I’ll be back soon, but things will be different and for the better. Less polished and more realistic. I’m truly grateful for the platform I’ve been given and hope to finally stop holding back and fulfil my purpose over the next few years.

I urge you, if you’re suffering, speak to someone. I can only speak for myself, but just getting the emotions out can really make a difference
