The gloomy weather we've been having has got me daydreaming about sunnier days ahead. It also made me think back to some of my favourite days out from last summer. 😎

One day that really stands out was this beautiful late-summer day when we decided to head out and explore the Scottish Borders, checking out @abbotsfordscott 😍

It’s definitely one of my favourite days out. We really enjoyed the audio tour of the house and I got to see every room, which was great. Give yourself plenty of time to explore the beautiful gardens that were designed by Sir Walter Scott.

There’s also a visitor centre with a café, a free exhibition, a gift shop, and accessible toilets.

Our tickets are valid for one year, so we’ll definitely be back. I’m already looking forward to our next visit!

Winter is honestly my least favourite season. Yeah, it can look really pretty when its frosty or snowing, but in general, the cold really affects me and makes it so much tougher to get around.

With my #MuscularDystrophy, my arms are already super weak, and when you add on all those extra layers and heavy jackets, it’s almost impossible to move them.

When I’m outside, I get so cold that I can’t drive my wheelchair properly anymore. It’s like the cold completely freezes my muscles, causing my hands and arms to stop working, and I lose the little strength I have to push the controller.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this, but in these clips, you’ll see how my body keeps falling to the side because I’m struggling to hold and push into the controller to drive forward. Even turning is difficult. It’s getting harder and harder to drive my chair when its cold. I'm literally driving along at a snails pace.

I’m curious if any other wheelchair users, especially those with Muscular Dystrophy, deal with the same thing. What do you do to help?

While in Berlin, to get to and from the airport, we used a wheelchair accessible taxi.

Our hotel recommended this taxi company called Space Cab - Luisenstadt Taxi GmbH.

We had the same driver for both airport journeys and he was great. He was friendly and made sure me and my wheelchair were secure 👍🏼 I've had a few wacky drivers in the past, but this taxi driver was a really calm driver so I wasn't getting thrown about in the back, which was great 😂

I know finding wheelchair accessible taxis when travelling can be quite difficult, so I thought I'd share this one in case you're looking for one in Berlin.

🫶🏼 Save for your next trip to Berlin

We just spent five nights there, and it was a great experience. The Circus Hotel is a boutique hotel located on Rosenthaler Platz in the vibrant heart of Mitte, Berlin.

Our wheelchair accessible room was a Medium Twin, and it was comfortable and spacious. The bed was super comfy! I didn’t even need my travel air mattress, which is a miracle because I usually rely on that when staying in hotels. Plus, there is a great pillow menu to choose from. The bed was about 20 inches high, with space underneath for a mobile hoist.

The room had nice dark oak floors, which made it easy to roll around on—way better than the usual hotel carpets.

The bathroom had a roll-in shower with a wall-mounted shower seat. I usually struggle with hotel sinks because they’re often too small or low, but this one was good. I could roll right under it, and the shallow bowl made it easy for me, and I wasn’t having to struggle to reach.

Breakfast at the hotel lounge, Lost My Voice, was lovely. Our waiter was super nice and gave us some great recommendations. The hotel staff were all lovely and really friendly, always happy to help.

We loved The Circus Hotel’s laid-back vibe and trendy design. It's in a great location, which means you’re close to the city's attractions and public transport links!
