AT LONG LAST!!! 😃🎉 It’s been an absolute mission, and quite a few months of stress, but have FINALLY landed a new client and started working with them today!!

The market for contractors in the UK, particularly in the native iOS development niche, has been ROUGH for the last few months, with virtually no companies looking to hire freelancers, or when something did come up, companies would change their mind or the role would disappear almost instantly because there were so many other people looking for roles at the same time (partly down to all the layoffs that happened earlier in the year).

I’ve been networking like crazy, had several things that I thought were close to being confirmed and was then either dropped or ghosted at the last minute. I’ve had agents tell me they’re looking to fill a role and then hear nothing back probably because there was no role. All the “tricks” of the modern job market have been in play over the last few months!

Just at the point where I was beginning to question if I even had any valuable skills anymore, things finally seemed to pick up - in the end my previous client reached out to see if I would work with them again (always nice having happy/repeat customers!!), but at exactly the same time another opportunity came up which I took instead because it’s a totally new challenge and a very prestiguous company to be working with!

I’ll now be helping a major UK news company deliver a new native iOS app experience, as they move away from React Native. (A fitting end to this job search, where i’ve seen loads of demand for react native 🤣). It’s a big app with a tight timescale so it’s going to be challenging but also a very exciting project with lots to cover!
