mountains and ocean all in one hike ?!? 🌊⛰️🥾🌼👇

I finally tackled one of my bucketlist trails this past weekend and it was nothing short of STUNNING 🙌 (& the steep climb was made much easier when you’re fueled by @kachava 😋). Ocean views, green mountains, and wildflowers all in the middle of January too?!?! Just so lucky that places like this exist - all just an hour from SD! Here’s the details you’ll need to experience this for yourself:

📍Trail Name: did you catch it in the video?! listen closely 👀

🥾Distance: 2.7 miles out-and-back

🎒Essential Gear: snacks of course!! 😋 I made chocolate peanut butter energy balls using @kachava Chocolate all-in-one nutrition shake to make sure we were properly fueled! With not only 25 grams of protein but also 6 grams of fiber, 26 essential vitamins & minerals, and 85+ superfoods, nutrients & plant-based ingredients, Ka’Chava supports you on every adventure from head to toe 🥾

I made these energy balls by combining ¼ cup of chocolate @kachava (you can use code KATBENNETT for 15% off!), ¼ cup of peanut butter, and ⅛ cup of maple syrup (for about 5 balls) which you can roll and then dip into melted chocolate (using chocolate chips and coconut oil). PS - freeze them to make them last longer on the trail!!

🎟️Permit Required? Nope! & dog-friendly 🐶

😅Difficulty: due to its steepness, it’s on the more moderate to difficult side! Although its short length makes it very doable

📅 When to Go: Winter and spring are the perfect time to go since the weather is cooler (the trail is very exposed with no shade) and you don’t have to worry as much about rattlesnakes (but still keep an eye out!)

🌿Always remember to practice the Leave No Trace Principles, pack out whatever you pack in, and leave the trail BETTER than you found it!!!

no complaints from me 😍

while winter usually means more rain than normal, it also means the the greenery in SoCal comes to life, waterfalls start flowing again, some of the best sunsets, mild temps & winter waves 🙌 it’s one of my favorite times of years to slow down and get out on the trails! Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Cedar Creek Falls (permit required) for a beautiful waterfall hike
2. Three Sisters Falls if you want to see a series of cascading waterfalls
3. El Cajon Mountain if you’re looking for a big challenge
4. Stonewall Peak has been on my bucketlist for a while
5. Coastal Walk Trail in La Jolla if you’re looking for something short and sweet and absolutely beautiful!

so surprised to see this in Palm Springs!!👇

Before this, I had no clue that waterfalls existed in Palm Springs bc it’s pretty much a giant desert!! But Tahquitz Falls, nestled in Tahquitz Canyon, is an easy, relatively flat trail to a 60 ft waterfall with beautiful scenery along the way. I even waded into the water a bit since it was pretty calm once we reached the waterfall (it was VERY cold though). Here’s a few details for your own planning 👇

- Tahquitz Canyon does have an admission fee of $15 per person which can paid at the visitor center

- You can join a ranger-lead hike for free (included in your admission) which leave from the visitor center 4 times per day. We did this and it was great to learn about the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians that lived there & the Legend of Tahquitz!

- it’s best to avoid this one during the summer as it can get dangerously hot! They also have limited operating hours during the summer

- no dogs allowed on this one!

-the waterfall is seasonal, meaning it’s not necessarily always flowing!

Want to go hut-to-hut trekking in 2026?!🙋‍♀️ details 👇

Honestly one of my bottle favorite parts of hiking the Tour Du Mont Blanc last year was staying in the mountain huts. Not only were they a comfortable place to arrive, have a hot shower, delicious meal and comfortable bed at the end of hiking each day, they also all had their unique quirks that made them so special - weather it be insane locations (staying right next to a glacier!), incredible views of being completely surrounded by the Alps, the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had, & all the hikers from around the world that gather there - staying in a mountain hut is just such a special experience 🥰

& I still have a few spots left on my hut-to-hut Alta Via 1 trek in the Dolomites for 2026 with my company @moregirlsoutdoors !!!
