Once again, it’s about to be: A Very ‘Tourettey’ Christmas! 🎅🏻🎄
Unfortunately I don’t really have much choice in the matter. 🤣😭

I don’t *ever* want *anybody* to be bothered by my tics whatsoever! But unfortunately, people always are. Even after I have explained in detail everything and anything they could possibly need to know re: my condition. And so, naturally I was actually *very* surprised to see him calm, and completely unfazed! He was such a kind gentleman who was so incredibly understanding and patient with all of my tics. This comprehension, in addition to the lack of reaction, is exactly what drives me and helps greatly with my anxieties around being outside, and specifically public places! 🙌🏼

‘I Am Sick Of Having To Explain This!’

*Video is self explanatory*

For me personally, my tics get worse when I am stressed, anxious or mentally overwhelmed. (Which pretty much sums my life up!) 😅🥴
But seriously, even just anticipating something nowadays is very often a big trigger for my tics. Though I’m unsure why? 🤷‍♂️ Like knowing people are coming over, important days, changes in routine (yeah, right!) or in fact anything that builds pressure in my chest, or my mind, can send them through the roof!

Fatigue is also a big one for me. And if I am feeling drained, low or not looking after myself properly, my tics do not just show up, they take over. And if I am dealing with pain or feeling trapped in my own head, that is another reason for them to really spike.

Excitement! I don’t know why or what it is about myself and getting excited about something that makes them flare so severely!? But this is right at the top of being one of my biggest tic triggers.
And yet sometimes, absolutely nothing at all!
Personally, my tics can be very unpredictable and random at times, and that is honestly one of the hardest parts of living with Tourette Syndrome.
———
Please keep in mind this is all based on my own experience with my tics. I’ve mentioned a few common triggers that many people with Tourettes might relate to, but everyone is different and not all of these will apply to others.

If you live with tics too, whether they are physical, vocal or both, you are always welcome here. This space is for you as much as it is for me. Feel free to share what triggers yours in the comments, or just read this and quietly know that you are not on your own. 💚
