As an elite gymnast, I trained for approx. 4-5 hrs / day. Sometimes pushing 6.

Now a lot of people would jump right up saying ‘that’s not optimal! You’re just gonna injure yourself’ 

However there’s a big difference between strength training for 5 hrs and training skills. For example with skills, you are aiming to minimise the amount of energy and effort you use throughout the skill by improving your technique. Then I’d typically finish my sessions with 2hrs of conditioning. 

It’s certainly not an easy regime that’s for sure. But to progress in the world of elite gymnastics being self taught, it was necessary.
