Happy Mother’s Day to every mum and granny👵🏻 .

The women who carried families, held things together when no one else saw it, and shaped the people we became today.

My mum might not remember she’s a mum, but who she is , the woman who raised us and now a grandmother to the next generation is still there… somewhere.

Behind every one of us is a mother who sacrificed more than we will probably ever fully understand and sometimes the roles change. Families step in, life slows down, and priorities shift. We’ve put parts of our own lives on hold by choice ,and we would do it all again for our mum. Because she would have done the same for us. I understand it’s also a difficult day for those whose mums are no longer with us.

So without being cheesy, because I hate cheese..Today is about recognising that!

Happy Mother’s Day to the mums, the grandmothers, and the women who built our families. 🥂🌸

*on a side note this is from 2020 so 6 years ago but one of my favourite videos I caught , true laughter and the cherry blossom falling . Just a happy moment in time ☺️

Doing much better! Best decision to move and these are all my opinions 😉 hopefully get back into the swing of TikTok again soon but feel it’s not what it was when I left
If you’ve seen my mum lately and thought she looks more vacant, here’s why.

Dementia doesn’t just steal memories. It affects expression, emotion, movement and speech. The delay, the vacant face, the tiredness… that’s the disease. Not her.

She is still in there. She still hears us. She still feels love and happiness She just can’t always show it.

I miss our conversations. I miss her advice. I miss who she was to me.i miss my mum 🥺

But we still get the giggles and the odd word here an there and that tells us everything. She’s happy. So we’ll keep making memories and making her smile.

If you’ve seen my mum lately and thought she looks more vacant, here’s why.

Dementia doesn’t just take memories. It affects the parts of the brain that control expression, emotion, movement and speech. The part of her that used to react quickly, that showed exactly what she was thinking or feeling across her face, doesn’t work the same anymore.

So sometimes her face is still..Sometimes her eyes look distant…Sometimes there’s a long pause before you get any response.

It can look like she isn’t there.

But she is.

She still hears us. She still feels us holding her hand. She still smiles and laughs and she can feel it. She just can’t always show it. The flat expression, the delay, the tiredness, that’s the disease. Not her.

When she was first diagnosed, I thought dementia meant forgetting names or repeating stories. I didn’t know it would take her ability to walk. To speak properly. To stop being able to do the basic things we all take for granted. I didn’t know it would slowly change her personality or take away the way she shows emotion, bit by bit.

It’s so much more complex than people realise. It’s not just memory loss. It’s watching someone you love lose parts of themselves while they’re still physically here. You’re grieving someone who is still sitting right in front of you.

I miss conversations with my mum. I miss going to her when I’ve had a bad day and asking for advice. I miss her reassurance. I miss who she was to me. That’s something this disease has taken too.

But we still get the laughs and smiles and good times . And those times tell us everything. She feels happiness. She feels comfort. She feels us.

So we’ll keep taking her out.
We’ll keep showing up.
We’ll keep making memories.
We’ll keep making her happy.

She may look vacant sometimes. But she is still in there. And she is still our mum 😊 just in case she always looks unhappy I can assure your she’s very happy and cared for!
