A helmet only protects you if it stays on your head.

We stopped by GT Motorcycles to speak with Nicki about one of the most overlooked things riders get wrong… their helmet strap.
Too loose, twisted, or not fastened properly and your helmet can come off in a crash. It’s a small detail that makes a massive difference.
Nicki shows us the correct way to secure it so your helmet actually does the job it’s designed for.

Why You Can Get Fined for a Car That Never Moves

A lot of drivers think if their car is just sitting on the driveway, it doesn’t matter.

But since Continuous Insurance Enforcement came in during 2011, every vehicle must either be insured or officially declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification).

That includes project cars, cars in storage, or vehicles you simply aren’t driving right now.

If it isn’t insured and you haven’t declared it SORN with the government, you can still face fines and penalties, even if the car never leaves your drive.

It’s one of those rules a lot of drivers only discover after a letter turns up in the post.

Before cancelling your insurance or leaving a car parked up for a while, make sure you declare it SORN first.

Sgt Owen Stops a Car That Should NEVER Be on the Road 🚫🚔

What started as a routine stop quickly turned into something else. The vehicle was initially stopped because it appeared one of the occupants wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

This 4x4 had multiple serious defects that made it unsafe for the road:

Illegal tyre tread
Fuel leak
Missing exhaust components
Brake and suspension issues
Loose battery
Faulty seatbelt clasps
No valid tax

When a vehicle presents a clear risk to road users, officers can issue a PG9 Prohibition Notice. That’s a legal ban on using the vehicle on public roads until the dangerous faults are corrected.

Quick reminder on two big ones we see all the time:

Legal tyre tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre
Seatbelts reduce the risk of death by around 50%

Unsafe cars aren’t just a danger to the driver. They put everyone else at risk too.
