The friend who tries to burst the love bombing bubble is never popular. The abuser is likely to try and end that friendship as quickly as possible. They will try and isolate the victim from anyone who questions the relationship. That doesn't mean you should stay silent (looking at you Chelsea), everyone needs friends who look out for them and potential domestic abuse victims need someone who will support the little voice in their head saying "This isn't ok". But its important to realise that you are unlikely to get through to them, domestic abuse isn't that simple, that's why you need to be there for them however you can. Try not to let the friendship be ended and, even if it is, try and let them know that you will be there for them if they need you. So many victims end up with no where to turn when they are finally able to escape. Giving someone a place to escape to can save a life.

Featuring Emma and Chrishell from Selling Sunset (disclaimer I dont know if Emma is in an abusive relationship, this is about the early stages and the red flags we can clearly see here).

AD When I buy feminist gifts for my loved ones (or myself), I try and buy them from small businesses with progressive values. Radical Tea Towel are UK based family business whose gorgeous tea towels (as well as bags, aprons, games and posters etc.) feature radical historical figures such as suffragettes, philosophers, literatural figures and lots of other different rebels. If you are looking for a gift that's also a conversation starter from a small family company, check them out @radicalteatowel

Happy International Women’s Day 💜

I celebrated this year by attending the Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970-1990 exhibition @whitworthart . It has so much amazing art, definitely recommend! Looking at feminist artwork and learning about collective organising from 50 years ago I was struck by how much progress we have made (in the fight for childcare, birth control, abortion rights, marriage equality, economic rights) and how much work is still to do ( in the fight for childcare, gender labour equality, abortion rights, economic rights). I feel now more than ever a solidarity with my sisters across the world, fighting against forces and leaders that wish to strip them of their hard won rights, especially in the USA. International Women’s Day is a day to assess our progress and gather strength for the fight ahead. Wishing you solidarity, strength and community 💜💜
