This avocado chickpea salad has been on repeat in my kitchen lately and as a dietitian I need to tell you why. #Ad This is a paid collaboration with @avocadosloveonetoday . #LoveOneToday Fresh avocados are a heart-healthy fruit that contribute good fats to the diet, providing 6 grams of unsaturated fat per one-third of a medium avocado. The American Heart Association recommends replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats for heart health and this salad makes
that swap effortless. 

They are also a good source of fiber, cholesterol free, sodium free and low in saturated fat which makes them one of the most practical heart-healthy ingredients you can add to your daily meals. And as a dietitian this study really stood out to me. In a meta-analysis (202 participants, seven studies), researchers compared avocado-inclusive diets to avocado-free diets, to look at the effect that eating avocado has on cholesterol levels. Avocado-inclusive diets increased good HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and improved the ratios of total cholesterol to HDL-C and bad LDL-cholesterol to HDL-C compared to avocado-free diets. The Avocado Nutrition Center funded the study, and although more research is needed to generalize the results to all people, the findings support the growing body of evidence demonstrating avocados as a heart-healthy fruit https://doi.org/10.1093/ajcn/nqx078Avocado Chickpea Salad. 

You will need: 1 ripe fresh avocado 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed 1 cucumber diced 3 tbsp Greek yogurt 1 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 tbsp crunchy chili oil Fresh cilantro Juice of 1 lime 1 jalapeño minced 1 tbsp rice vinegar Salt to taste Served with warm toast.
