In the summer of 2023 I was invited to work with Corran from Blackpool in a initiative with @nikoneurope
@dofeuk @sharp_shots_photo_club -
Inviting Nikon photographers to mentor and work with young people, in order for them to tell their own story. I rediscovered this video today 3 years on, and wanted to share it . Corran a brilliant young man, and young carer was a joy to work with.
As people who know me and follow my work, mentoring and enabling others to build up their own story telling skills is a huge passion of mine. From @through_our_lens_project that I set up in the pandemic to mentoring for experienced photographers is something I hold onto . I love it, and this film and initiative is a great reminder.
Thank you @nikoneurope for inviting me to do this - and also @beyondcontent for doing such a brilliant job filming and editing this. More can be seen on YouTube.
Contact me if you are interested in finding out more about mentoring.
Grace, Francis and Laraib.
Three young people I have been working with yearly as part of my artist residency with @bibresearch as they journey through adolescence until adulthood
Here you can hear their hopes and dreams, fears , ambitions and wishes. And the portraits are taken across three years.
I will be working with them until they are 18/19, making portraits, asking them about the lives and recording their answers.
If you want to see more of this work, there a permanent exhibition at Bradford Royal Infirmary, spanning the main outpatients corridor. Grace, Francis and Laraib can also be seen in the new galleries @mediamuseum .
Next March a small selection of other portraits can be seen in the new exhibition- The Coming of Age exhibition- opening @wellcomecollection .
