@ofc_daiu in Cardiff Bay is becoming a firm favourite of mine. It's an all you can eat hot pot and bbq experience with tons of different meat, seafood and vegetables to choose from. We started off at the sushi counter with the seaweed and mushrooms salads to accompany, I loved the seaweed salad in particular which has a nice bite to it

Next onto the hot pot, you can pick from a selection of 6 broths, I went for the mushroom broth which packed a load of depth and umami. You can scan a QR code to check how long to cook each item on the hot pot and bbq for. There's also a sauce station in which you can create your own dipping sauce, but unfortunately I couldn't go near that as it was all self serve and there was a chance of cross contamination as there were crushed peanuts in the mix which is tricky for people with allergies, I'm wondering if the peanuts could be moved to their own separate section to prevent this?

This place is always a super fun experience, where you can try different meats and flavour combinations and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Chargrilled Chicken & Lamb Kofte Mix Wrap

In a little hut in the Hayes you'll find the middle eastern haven that is @zawa.cardiff 

You can choose between a salad box with rice or couscous or a naan wrap. Me and mum opted for the mixed wrap which was only £8.50 and it was bloody huge, I had to take a bit home and it honestly kept me full all day. The naan breads are made fresh to order right in front of you. The salad bar consisted of pickled onion, pickled cabbage, mixed leaf salad and don't even get me started on the sauce section, all homemade, all delicious. Of course I had to try them all!

The wrap itself was pillowy and still warm, the flavours of the meat and the sauces together with the crunch of the cabbage it really was a stunning lunch.

If you're into supporting local businesses, eating authentic affordable freshly made food then give this place a go next time you need a lunchtime fix

For my birthday last weekend we managed to bag a last minute table at @embercardiff to try their Sunday roast. All I can say is WOW, it was phenomenal and has gone straight into contention for my all time favourite Cardiff roast, no surprises there though, as it's co-owned by 2 Cardiff food powerhouses @heaneychef and @chefdaveyk 

Their Sunday roast offering is 2 courses for £35 or 3 for £42. I loved the fact that they had pasta as an option for the starter, and their portion sizes were super generous, it wasn't just your usual measly few bits of rigatoni. The pasta dish was rich in flavour, perfectly balanced and had a lovely crunch to it. I'd go back for this alone.

Now into the main event...I always opt for beef when going for a roast but this was some of the best beef I've ever had. Pink, juicy and 2 big thick slabs of it. The roasties were spot on. The gravy was rich enough that I didn't feel the usual need to drown my whole plate in another jug of it. The yorkshire pud with the beef shin and horseradish, just divine. Every element was well thought out and excellently executed. To quote my mum 'this is the best roast I've ever had....and I'm really old'

My dad and fiancé shared the slow cooked lamb shoulder ans it just fell off the bone, it was so tender. Again the portion size was huge, we had to take some home. It came with crunchy kale and on a bed of vegetable puree. I had a bite of this and will definitely be ordering this on my next visit.

The setting, the food, the attentive staff and a lovely bottle (or 2) of red shared really did make for the perfect Sunday. Couldn't recommend enough!!

Had the dreamiest dinner at @pizzapilgrims last week. It really was like a slice of Naples in the city centre! 

The decor was funky and the vibe relaxed. They even had a speedboat booth you could sit in (dibs that table next time).I started strong with a Pineapple Margarita with a chilli salt rub, it was just the right balance of sweet salty and spicy! Then onto the Cacio E Pepe balls, these were DIVINE and even better with their truffle mayo! I love that they make all their dips in house, you can really tell. 

Now for the main event, we came to try the October Guest Special Pizza, the Spicy Garden. A fresh pea cream base paired well with smoked stracciata cheese (the cheese inside a burrata) and vegan nduja. The vegan nduja didn't taste that close to real nduja in my opinion but it was a tasty pizza never the less and nice to try something different. It definitely needed the chilli oil that was on hand to spice it up a bit. The honey honey and pepperoni pizza was right up my street. And it came with the hot honey on the side so you didnt need to drown the pizza if you didn't want to! Pizza Pilgrims have seriously nailed their pizza bases, the perfect airy crust with a good amount of crunch.

We were absolutely stuffed after such a feast so just opted for ice cream to finish was of course delicious.
