Don’t underestimate the benefits of using analog emulation plugins on your mixes, regardless of genre. They can make your mixes sound warm, detailed, and full of character. I’ve used many analog emulation plugins over the years, but the SSL and Slate Digital plugins are the best I’ve ever used. And the fact you can get them together in one bundle with 150 plugins is actually quite brilliant!

I have been using the Amek 200 EQ for a while now on my master. It just adds that extra level of clarity and polish that makes mixes sound commercial. Try starting with that Mastering Pop preset (regardless of the genre you are mixing) and tweak it from there. It should give you quite noticeable results every time.

Using EQ to carve out space in the mix for instruments that are clashing is still the to-to option: it gets the job done. I think where Curves Resolve can fit in is if you want good results quickly and effortlessly and if your mix is suffering from extreme masking. Unmasking is a crucial process of mixing - it will de-cloud your mix and create more clarity and definition.

This is not an ad for the plugin. I’ve just been using it of late and found it to be really useful. Thanks @wavesaudio

Compression is HARD. Sometimes the effects are so nuanced that it can take years to develop an ear to hear these subtleties. But it all starts with understanding the controls and using them properly - the rest is application and practice.

If you want want to learn even more about compression in an easy to understand format, you can get a 'Understanding Compression' guide from my online store (link in bio)
